Associate Professor, Director of LSU Motor Speech Lab
YUNJUNG KIM, PH. D.
Yunjung is an associate professor at the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (COMD), College of Humanities and Social Sciences, LSU. She joined LSU in 2007 after earning her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her primary research interests lie in the transformation from a talker’s articulatory behavior to listeners' reaction.
Doctoral Student
AUSTIN THOMPSON
Austin is a second-year Ph.D. student in the LSU COMD department. His research interests include speech acoustics and kinematics, and the relationship between these two domains, in healthy speakers and speakers with dysarthria. In 2018, he graduated with his Master's degree from LSU and completed a Master's thesis project that examined articulatory kinematics during stop closure in people with Parkinson’s disease. Austin is a recipient of the 2017 ASHA Students Preparing for Academic and Research Careers (SPARC) award and the 2019 Graduate Student Scholarship (GSS).
Master Student
JUDITH (ALEXIS) ESPINAL
Alexis is a second year master student in the COMD department. She previously graduated from Bowdoin College in Maine with two B.A.s in Art History and in Psychology. Currently she is completing her thesis project analyzing the acoustic characteristics of American English liquids produced by adults whose second language is English. Alexis is excited to present her findings at the 2019 American Speech, Language and Hearing Association Convention (November, Orlando, FL).
Master Student
KIMBERLY GRUBBS
Kimberly (feel free to call Kim) was born and raised in Gulfport, MS and stayed there until undergrad. She attended The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS to pursue a bachelors in Speech Pathology with a minor in Spanish (Hola!). She is currently a second year student in the Masters of Communication Sciences and Disorders program here at LSU. She is aspiring to be a Speech-Language Pathologist to aid adult clients who have had strokes or other disorders that affect their communication. Few fun facts: She loves corgis, hedgehogs, owls, and cute animals. She spends free time watching KDramas. She loves languages and is currently teaching herself Korean and French.

ASHLYN LEE
Ashlyn is a sophomore undergraduate student double majoring in COMD and Spanish. She is from Little Rock, Arkansas and loves everything about LSU! She is looking forward to learning more about the research aspect of COMD and gaining experience that will aid her in her graduate program. She is a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and is very involved in the Baptist Collegiate Ministry on campus!
